Cows vs. Goats

A cow herd of 50 cows to raise calves to sell will cost $35,000 to $50,000, depending upon age and quality, and should produce 50 calves, to sell at $600 to $700 each, for gross income of perhaps $30,000 to $35,000.

A Boer Cross Doe herd of 400 Premium Does will cost $44,000 and should produce 1200 kids per year, to sell for at least $75 per kid, for gross income of $90,000

The goat herd will clean up and eliminate weeds, thistles, noxious grasses, cedars, and other un-desirable growth, completely eliminating the need for expensive herbicides. You would never again brush-hog or spray your pastures and the grasses would grow better because they would not have competition from weeds.
